This pendulum experiment will take approximately 90 minutes and consists of four sections: background information, a simple introductory pendulum experiment which you will conduct at your computer, a short video of a classroom experiment, and pendulum simulations. First read the pendulum notes, then continue on with the experiments. To fully participate in this experiment, Microsoft Office must be installed on your computer.

Introductory Experiments

An intro to physical reality. Before going into the lab, try this simple pendulum experiment.

Lab Notebook

Record the data from your experiment in this MS Word Lab Notebook, analyze the generated graph, and answer the questions for analysis.

The Lab Experience

Part I: Learn what changes when one does a pendulum experiment with computer-controlled data acquisition.

The Lab Experience

Part II: Watch a streaming video of Dr. Weigman's lab pendulum experiment and analyze the data set.

Mathematical Modeling

Part I: Explore the connection between experiment and theory.

Simulations

Part II: Visit other simulations of similiar pendulum experiments.
